True Cloud Bucket Hat

This is the the hat that started it all. It is the physical reality of the determination and passion that continues to fulfill my every day. Before I knew much of anything about cyanotype, I would mix the chemistry under the moon and countless hours perfecting the process for clouds. My first attempt on this hat left it in an awful bleached state, but I did not give up!

About

Cloud Human by Alec Gougebas. Every piece is upcycled, hand-processed, and completely unique. Made under Montana’s big sky, I create cloud inspired designs using the only true blue in the world - cyanotype.

Returns

Returns are accepted. Because all clothing is upcycled from local thrift stores, please note that pieces' condition will vary. I mend any major defects and thoroughly wash.. Returns will only be accepted at my discretion, usually within the first few days of delivery. No returns if you wash the wrong way and ruin it.

Washing and Care

Cyanotype, also known as sun printing, is an archival photographic process that can last for hundreds of years - when taken care of properly.

ANY washing will fade the true blue, wash only when necessary, and only following these guidelines. Your clothing will easily withstand rain and snow but avoid swimming with it on.

  • Turn your item inside out and hand wash in COLD water

  • Use a phosphate-free liquid soap. Recommendations: Country Save laundry detergent, Foca Phosphate-Free Laundry Detergent, Dr. Bronner’s castile soap, Ecomax Natural orange laundry wash.

  • Use a sink or bathtub. Washing machines can have traces of phosphates - powerful cleaning chemicals that will bleach (destroy) your cyanotype.

  • Air dry or use a dryer set to low spin and heat.

DO NOT USE

-Any detergent containing bleach or sodium, Borax, Oxyclean, washing soda, powdered detergents, powdered soaps, baking soda, any form of washing salts, or bleach

Care

  • Sweat as well as very oily hands may also cause discoloration.

  • Intense sunlight will fade Cyanotype but it is temporary! Leave the clothing in a dark place with plenty of air overnight and the color will return like magic.

  • If the color has lost its luster after a long period without washing, you can submerge it in a bath of water with a splash of hydrogen peroxide which will generally restore the color.

  • Using UV protective sprays can be a great choice if you spend long periods in the sun, I can only recommend ForceField UV Sunblock Fabric Fade Protector
